My journey began in 2013 at the very first Minneapolis Yoga Conference. I was facilitating a booth for a yoga studio I taught at, and one of the perks for volunteering at the booth was that I got to take a yoga session at the conference. I was looking at the schedule, and I saw "Shamanic Yoga w/ Sacred Cacao Ceremony." I thought to myself, what is Shamanic Yoga? I decided to give it a try.

We started with a cup of cacao, and then moved into the most euphoric, expansive yoga class I had ever experienced. It was so much more than a yoga class -- it was truly a journey into another land. Our guide (CJ Ananda of
The Kula Collective) led us through the primal worlds of the Serpent, the Jaguar, the Hummingbird, and the Eagle. Through moving our bodies into these animalistic yoga postures, we became these animals; we saw from their perspectives and sensed the wisdom and medicine they have to offer us. All the while, sacred sounds of drums, shakers, chants were woven into the journey from Coby Hadas. Savasana propelled me to the upper world, and I floated through the rest of the day feeling light as a feather, bright, and giggly with delight. I had just opened a door to a new universe. Cacao had melted my heart wide open. This was unlike any other yoga class I had ever known.

This experience showed me exactly what I was looking for. Three years later, I did my RYT 200-hour Shamanic Yoga Teacher training with The Kula Collective in Troncones, Mexico. I was guided through sacred ceremonies, holistic cleanses, self study, and more. Through this profound, transformational experience, it became clear that cacao is a special medicine that needs to be shared with the world.

And now I am here to hold sacred space for you as you meet the spirit of cacao.

Cacao ceremony will help you move from fear to love.

My musician friend Kimberly and I have curated a special yoga studio healing session. We begin with a cup of sacred cacao to connect us to Spirit and help expand our heart chakra (30 min). We then use the ancient teachings of Nature's Five Elements for this intense and transformational yoga practice (90 min). Our experience will be deepened by the constant thread of sacred sounds performed live.

Host us at your favorite yoga studio!

A Cacao Ceremony can provide a great tool for bringing a team together. Journeying together with Cacao is a very bonding experience, creating more harmony and connection in the workplace with an increased flow of creativity and productivity.

Please get in touch if you would like me to facilitate a Cacao Team Building party for your work place.

Because of cacao’s ability to increase your connection to your inner self and your heart chakra, it aids in any transformational shift you are working towards, whether you are looking to deepen your understanding of who you are, release old patterns and traumas, or move into a more self-confident space.

Whatever your path, the intention is yours to set, and the cacao allows you to use the insight and awareness to move towards that goal.

We first smudge to clear our energies, we call in Spirit. We sit in sacred circle, honoring the cacao spirit with prayer, and humbly asking for our intentions to be heard. Then, we raise the vibration by singing together and serve the cacao in liquid form. We then drink together in a guided meditation + sound bath. We integrate the medicine and channel our intentions. This could include sacred movement, meditation, wisdom card readings, and/or entering into a sharing with each other of what we want to let go of and what we are calling in. At this time, the cacao activates within the body and the heart, allowing a truly transformative and ecstatic process to unfold. This is a very safe and intimate space, and the people who attend always surprise themselves at how they are able to open up to strangers, especially when they start to realize we are all mirrors for each other, all just human beings with the same fears and sufferings, the same hopes and dreams. We complete our journey by recalling our intentions and taking a final rest.

From the Cacao Guru Keith, the Chocolate Shaman:

An Indigenous myth tells us whenever the balance between humans and nature becomes threatened, cacao comes from the rainforest to open people's hearts and return the planet to a state of harmony.

Cacao has an ancient origin and was revered as a divine food. For thousands of years, the Incas and Mayans of Mesoamerica have used Cacao as a food, a medicine, a currency, and as a part of sacred ceremonies. This amazing superfood is a heart opener. The flavonoids contained in the Cacao improve blood circulation and it may protect against heart problems and may lower blood pressure naturally. It also contains the “Bliss Molecule” anandamide, which is a mood improver, creating a feeling of euphoria. The “Love Chemical” phenylethylamine triggers the natural release of endorphins and opiate-like neurochemicals. It acts as an MAO inhibitor which allows more serotonin to circulate in the brain.

Sacred Cacao was bypassed in the ‘60’s resurgence of medicine-plants because it does not act like a psychedelic – it does not take you on its trip, but facilitates your own. In the last few years, the Holy Bean has emerged and is becoming known for its medical benefits, as a ‘raw’ food, and with the ‘bean to bar’ chocolatiers, making chocolate much as it was made 200 years ago.

A cacao ceremony is an experience in multidimensional group energy. Cacao works with you where you are, and with the ceremonial facilitator through where they are. Cacao brings the door but doesn’t push you through it.

A major advantage of ceremonial cacao is that it makes it much easier to deeply access one's emotional body, pain body, or density on the dark shadow side... or ready expansion and higher dimensional connection on the light shadow side. Cacao allows you to go considerably deeper into meditation and self-healing than possible without the medicine… and understandings tend toward more permanent changes. Cacao is a heart-centered anchor that takes you where you're going with more love and less fear.

Incas referred to raw Cacao as the “food of the gods.”

I am beyond grateful to my teachers and mentors for sharing their wisdom illuminating this path to healing. I trust and ally with The Kula Collective because they travel all over the world to build connections to elders who have roots and bloodlines in the places they work. I hear from my mentors that many of these elders are communicating a shift in their vision:

While for centuries they have been closely guarding their wisdom, now is the time for co-creation.

I am always sensitive to the accusations of cultural appropriation. Please know that the intention behind it is pure. On one side of the coin, I am a neophyte in all things indigenous. On the other side, this wisdom lives, and always has lived, deep within my and your souls. I trust that the intention behind my work will be transmitted, and that I will move with integrity and respect to the roots of tradition. When I draw on these traditions and medicines, my first step is to ask permission. This is done mostly through deep personal work with the practices and medicines, and also through directly asking permission from spirit and creator whenever I begin a ceremony. I understand that each land has its own history, language, spirits, traditions, and medicines, and I pay homage to the mesoamerican people and roots of cacao.
